Villach Conference Event

Vom 9. Oktober bis zum 15. Oktober 1985 lud die Weltorganisation für Meteorologie (WMO) gemeinsam mit dem Umweltprogramm (UNEP) und den Internationalen Wissenschaftsrat (ICSU) internationale Klimaexperten nach Villach in Österreich ein. Wegen der steigenden Emissionen von Kohlendioxid und anderen Treibhausgasen, hieß es in der Abschlusserklärung, dass "in der ersten Hälfte des nächsten Jahrhunderts mit einer Erderwärmung zu rechnen sei, die größer ist als je zuvor in der Geschichte der Menschheit".

In 1985 a joint UNEP/WMO/ICSU Conference was convened in Villach (Austria) on the “Assessment of the Role of Carbon Dioxide and of Other Greenhouse Gases in Climate Variations and Associated Impacts”. The conference concluded, that “as a result of the increasing greenhouse gases it is now believed that in the first half of the next century (21st century) a rise of global mean temperature could occur which is greater than in any man’s history.”
