The First World Climate Conference in Geneva Event

Auf der ersten Weltklimakonferenz vom 12. bis zum 23. Februar 1979 in Genf, dem Sitz der Weltorganisation für Meteorologie (WMO), diskutierten internationale Experten über den Stand der Klimaforschung. Sie warnten vor einem massiven Anstieg der Kohlendioxid-Konzentration in der Atmosphäre und vor möglichen langfristigen Änderungen des globalen Klimas durch anthropogene Aktivitäten. In Folge der Konferenz wurde das Weltklimaprogramm (WCP) gegründet, welches bei der WMO angesiedelt ist.

Organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the First World Climate Conference (WCC-1) was held on 12-23 February, 1979 in Geneva, Switzerland. The WCC-1 recognized climate change as a serious problem and the WCC-1 declaration called for the urgent development of a common strategy for a greater understanding of the climate system and a rational use of climate information, and proposed the establishment of the World Climate Programme (WCP).
