World Overshoot Day 2016 Event

On 8 August 2016, humanity used up nature’s budget for the year 2016, according to data from Global Footprint Network, an international research organization that is changing how the world manages its natural resources and responds to climate change. Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s annual demand on nature exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.

Dies berechnete Global Footprint Network, eine Forschungsorganisation, welche dafür mit dem Fussabdruck eine Buchhaltungsmethode entwickelt hat. Der „Earth Overshoot Day“ markiert den Tag, ab dem aus ökologischer Sicht die Menschheit über ihre Verhältnissen lebt. Das bedeutet, dass die Menschheit vom 1. Januar bis zum 8. August so viel von der Natur verbraucht hat, wie die Erde im ganzen Jahr regenerieren kann.
