Volcano eruption threatens wildlife Event

A volcano La Cumbre has erupted on the Galapagos islands, threatening some of the region's exotic wildlife. After four years of inactivity, La Cumbre began spewing lava, gas and smoke on the Fernandina Island on Saturday. The eruption is not a threat to people living on neighbouring islands, but lava flowing into the sea may harm marine life and iguanas.

Der Vulkanausbruch des La Cumbre auf der Insel Fernandina in Ecuador bedroht die einzigartige Tierwelt der Galapagos-Insel. Das Ausmaß des Vulkanausbruchs stellten Parkwächter bei einem Flug über die unbewohnte Insel fest. Die Ausbruchsstelle befindet sich rund 500 Meter vom Krater des La Cumbre entfernt an der Südwestseite des Vulkans.
