WWF's Earth Hour 2009 Event

Die Naturschutzorganisaton WWF rief weltweit dazu auf, am 28. März um 20.30 Uhr Ortszeit für eine Stunde das Licht zu löschen und sich so für den Klimaschutz einzusetzen. Weltweit waren fast 4000 Städte in 88 Ländern in 25 unterschiedlichen Zeitzonen dabei. Eine große Zahl bekannter Gebäude versank für eine Stunde in der Dunkelheit. Darunter der Pariser Eiffelturm, die Akropolis, die Pyramiden von Gizeh, das Empire State Gebäude, die Christusstatue von Rio de Janeiro, das als „Vogelnest“ bekannte Olympiastadion von Peking oder das Sydney Opera House.

On March 28th, 8.30pm local time, almost 4000 towns and cities across 88 countries visibly demonstrated their growing concern over climate change by turning off their lights for 1 hour. Global icons including Sydney Opera House, the Acropolis, the Bird’s Nest stadium in China, the pyramids of Giza, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and Big Ben were plunged into darkness for one hour for the largest global action on climate change ever.
