Germany joins the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition Event

Am 29. Mai 2015 gab das Bundesumweltministerium bekannt, dass Deutschland der sogenannten Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition als Regierungspartner beitritt. Die Initiative knüpft an die Erklärung "Putting a Price on Carbon" an, die die Weltbank im Rahmen des UN-Klimasondergipfels im September 2014 in New York präsentiert hatte. Diese Erklärung haben insgesamt 74 Staaten – darunter auch Deutschland – sowie 23 subnationale Regierungen und mehr als 1000 Unternehmen unterschrieben. Mit dieser Initiative will die Weltbank die Entwicklung und Einführung von effektiven CO2-Bepreisungssystemen weltweit voranbringen.

The Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition brings together leaders from across government, the private sector and civil society to share experience working with carbon pricing and to expand the evidence base for the most effective carbon pricing systems and policies.
The coalition formed from a groundswell of support for carbon pricing at the 2014 UN Climate Summit, where 74 countries and more than 1,000 companies expressed support for carbon pricing. Its goal is to expand the use of effective carbon pricing policies that can maintain competitiveness, create jobs, encourage innovation, and deliver meaningful emissions reductions. The coalition was created in 2014 by the World Bank Group in conjunction with partners including the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Economic Forum, and the United Nations Global Compact’s Caring for Climate Initiative.
