Studie zeigt dramatischen Schwund von Vögeln in Europa auf Ereignis

In den vergangenen 30 Jahren ist die Anzahl der Vögel europaweit um 421 Millionen Individuen zurückgegangen. Der Grund sei die moderne Agrarindustrie sowie der damit verbundene fortschreitende Verlust der natürlichen Lebensräume der Tiere. Zu diesem erschreckendem Ergebnis kommt eine am 2. November 2014 in dem Wissenschaftsmagazin Ecology Letters veröffentlichte Studie zur europäischen Vogelwelt von Wissenschaftlern der Universität Exceter, der Royal Society for the Protection of Birds und des Pan-European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme . Einst häufige Arten wie Haussperling, Feldlerche, Rebhuhn oder Star sind besonders betroffen. Insgesamt gehen 90 Prozent der Vogelverluste auf die 35 am weitesten verbreiteten Arten zurück.

Bird populations across Europe have experienced sharp declines over the past 30 years, with the majority of losses from the most common species, say researchers from the University of Exeter, the RSPB and the Pan-European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme (PECBMS) in a new study. However numbers of some less common birds have risen. The study, published in the journal Ecology Letters on 2 November 2014, reveals a decrease of 421 million individual birds over 30 years. Around 90 percent of these losses were from the 36 most common and widespread species, including house sparrows, skylarks, grey partridges and starlings, highlighting the need for greater efforts to halt the continent-wide declines of our most familiar countryside birds.
